DAYTAWAVE PRACTICAL GUIDES

POTS Replacement Guide

Assess replacement options for analog lines, alarms, elevator phones, and other devices.

← All resources

Use this checklist to prepare for provider conversations and avoid surprises. Exact service terms and technical requirements should be verified for your locations and equipment.

01

Inventory every analog-dependent device

Include alarms, fire panels, elevators, fax machines, point-of-sale terminals, gate systems, and specialty monitoring equipment.

02

Check technical and regulatory requirements

A replacement must meet equipment manufacturer, monitoring company, local authority, code, and accessibility requirements where applicable.

03

Do not assume VoIP is a drop-in replacement

Analog adapters and ordinary Internet calling may not support signaling, supervision, battery backup, or line-monitoring requirements.

04

Evaluate purpose-built options

Depending on the device, options can include managed analog replacement, approved cellular communicators, upgraded IP equipment, or other compliant solutions.

05

Coordinate testing before cutover

Have the responsible vendor and monitoring service verify end-to-end operation, emergency calling where relevant, and backup power before retiring the old line.

Important: This guide is general information, not a guarantee of service availability, pricing, compatibility, or regulatory compliance. Confirm details with providers and relevant equipment specialists.
